Participation was down this year at the UK Nationals, while the competition was as exciting as it usually is at the event. A total of 40 British 4-way teams competed at Skydive Hibaldstow and completed all scheduled rounds last weekend. It was not the FAI World Cup 2017 that kept teams from competing again, less than a week after the award ceremony in Saarlouis. In fact, all six AAA Class teams that had competed for Great Britain were back to post more scores after the short 4/5-round meet in Germany, due to the bad weather. This time, they were able to complete ten rounds in three days.

The recent update from the UK Nationals mentioned that the British top teams have moved closer together. Team 4mula finished only seven points behind Satori XL by winning one round and tying the winner's score four more times. Even Chimera posted a highscore in Round 3 and finished with a new team record average. Satori XL still never left a doubt that the new lineup would defend the top position in the United Kingdom successfully. Pete Allum, Steve Hamilton, Ady King and John McIver, with Rich Orford on camera, gave away only two rounds, one to Chimera and the other one to Team 4mula in.

British AA Class teams are on the top level of the 2017 world rankings

The 4-way AAA Class competition at the UK Nationals 2017 was not the only exciting event, due to the qualification for the FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2018 in Australia in the Open Class and the Women's category. The competition in the three other events was even closer for the medal positions. The other British teams did not have the same intensive meet schedule as the six AAA Class teams that had also competed at the FAI World Cup 2017. In fact, several members of the same six teams competed on three consecutive weekends.
